Research

Northwestern Memorial Hospital: Dr. Richard Burt, Chief of the Division of Immunotherapy for Autoimmune Diseases, is lead author of a ten-year study that was published in the February 1, 2006 Journal of the American Medical Association. The study involved harvesting patients' blood stem cells from their own bone marrow, using chemotherapy to destroy the existing immune system, cleansing the cells, and returning them to the marrow in an effort to regenerate a healthier immune system. A larger trial is expected to commence soon. Dr. Burt graciously acknowledged our funding support at the conclusion of his reprot, and he served as keynote speaker at last year's event.

The University of Kansas Medical Center: Dr. Kevin Latinis, Assistant Professor of Medicine, Division of Allergy, Immunology, and Rheumatology, will speak at this year's event. We contributed to the development of Dr. Latinis' lupus clinical database and referral center in Kansas City, which will help improve the care of lupus patients. A fellow Jayhawk, Dr. Latinis and his team are dedicated to continuing work to improve diagnostics and treatment of lupus.

The Alliance for Lupus Research: The ALR contributes 100% of funds raise directly to research. We have supported the ALR's research by contributing case raised at our events and participating in ALR events.
